The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Names New Director

A 46-year-old scholar with an international personal and cultural background will be the next leader of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

On Friday, the museum’s board of trustees announced the appointment of Julian Zugazagoitia, director of the Museo del Barrio in New York, as its fifth director.

Born in Mexico City and educated at the Sorbonne, Zugazagoitia has been director of the Museum del Barrio since 2002. Before that he was executive assistant to the director at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, where he organized the big “Brazil Body and Soul exhibition.” In 2002 he was a curator of the 25th Sao Paulo Biennale in Brazil.

New Shirt Notice: "Cherry Bomb" On Sale July 1st

Cherry Bomb T-shirt

Metaphorical linguistics get in a head-on collision with pixel art as pseudo-fractal art rides shotgun! Yeah yeah, that doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue I know, but it does make for a bomb-blast of cherry goodness across your chest. So what are you waiting for? It goes on sale on July 1st at midnight US CST. (GMT -6) There no artist to credit on this one-it was done in-house, so I hope you like it.

Due to the nature of this shirt’s design, I’m attaching two more photos so you can get the effect from different distances…

Of course, this means it’s your last chance to get a print of “Creative on Amber” currently on our home page before it goes into the archive forever on July 1st. As always, if you like this design, let us know in the comments. If you hate it, tell us why. The more feedback we get, the better.

Democrazy - For Dreaming T-shirt

o0OdemocrazyO0o is a killer New Zealand designer with a penchant for fantastic doodles with lots of great detail. He’s done this design especially for 200nipples and I’m pretty excited about it. I always try to pick art that I’d want to wear and this one is definitely in that category. In his own words:

o0OdemocrazyO0o is a Graphic Artist with a day job in Graphic Design. Scribbling artwork onto T-Shirts, Skateboards and Canvas have become his creative therapy outlet…

His family resides in Aotearoa (new Zealand) and is just surviving this years winter (not to mention snowtrolls)… brrr

He has a love for creating in lots of mediums with a love of music, animation, computer art and smell creation. He has a lovely family that don’t hit him much….

A big shout out to the 200 Nipple Clan for letting me run amok…

“Creative on Amber” has tons of neat little details, so I’m attaching a detail shot below. This shirt will go on sale at 12:00am on June 1st, 2009 on the home page. This is also the start of our new scheduling. Instead of every 4 weeks, we’re now featuring a new shirt on the 1st of every month. (If that’s too hard to remember, just sign up for our new shirt notice service.)

You can catch up with o0OdemocrazyO0o and see more of his illustrations at his Deviant Art profile page. And I think it’s rather fitting that he currently has this written in the questionnaire section of his Deviant Art profile:

Skin of choice: I’ve always like the skin on my nipples…

The fates obviously meant for him to have artwork featured with us at some point. Here’s that detail shot I promised you:

200Nipples In The News: KC Star

Kansas City Star Building

Kansas City Star Building

Our nipples got some coverage in the Kansas City Star today! We’re the first ones listed in a story about local Kansas City T-Shirt shops. That’s the Kansas City Star Production facility up there. If you’ve ever seen it, you’ll know it is a fantastic building. You can see all the presses and ton-rolls of paper in action as they print the Star every night. It’s all glass and it’s right on I-670 in downtown KC, but I digress…

Read our section of the write up below, click through for the full story:

200 NIPPLES

•Limited edition: www.200nipples.com features just one design a month and sells no more than 100 shirts of that design. And if you get in early, you can get a great deal. Shirt No. 1 sells for $1. Shirt No. 2, $2. But Shirt No. 100: $100 (yikes). Co-owner Wade Meredith views the site as a marketing experiment — it rewards “first adopters.” 200 Nipples typically sells 30-40 of each design, sometimes even the $100 T. And there’s no extra inventory because the shirts aren’t made until they’ve been purchased.

•It takes three: Meredith’s partners are his sister Shandra Chapman and friend Scott Connerly.

•About that name: 100 shirts = 200 nipples, right? But some killjoy mentioned that about 6 percent of people have some sort of third nipple. So Meredith also registered the domain name 206nipples.com.

•Fan club: Five or so people have bought every shirt sold by 200 Nipples — 15 designs so far.

•Available: At www.200nipples.com and soon at Vahalla Studios, 2111 Washington St. in the Crossroads.

Warmer weather brings out hot T-shirt designs, all made in KC – KC Star

Bonus: they mentioned the Vahalla Studios retail shop that will be opening soon on the southwest side of the Crossroads district. (You may soon be able to score some 200nipples gear in a brick-and-mortar-store!)

Ben Chlapek - Worthless

Ben Chlapek - Worthless

Ben Chlapek was the first designer we featured here at 200Nipples. I personally love his design asthetic and he’s done a lot of killer poster work in his short design career so far. He currently has a write up in Present Magazine, a Kansas City specific rag “presenting the best of Kansas City.” You can find the article here. You can catch up with ben at NeverSleeping.com.
